FALSE FRIENDS

We call False Friends to those English words which look similar to other words in Spanish, however their meaning is completely different.

For example, if you don´t feel well because you have a cold, don´t tell the doctor that you are constipated because the prescription doesn´t have anything to do with your cold.

Another good examples are disgust and argument. It doesn´t mean that you have had problems with your friend.

An interesting false friend is the word sympathetic. Definitely it is not a synonym of friendly or nice. And what about the word terrific? Nothing to do with a horror film.

Do you vacuum the carpet? It isn´t a school item.

What about lecture? Is it a good book? The answer is…NOOO

….Or remove? Use better the word stir if you want to be a smart cooker. Don´t use lentils if you can´t see well, the cooker needs them.

I encourage you to learn new false friends in order to avoid embarrassing situations.
